Your rights are protected. Employers cannot discriminate against you, and you have access to a wide range of support to propel your career forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fact_wrap\">\n<div class=\"fact_txt\"><em>4.7m<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"fact_desc\">\n<p>Over 4.7 million disabled people in the UK are employed \u2013 so there\u2019s no reason why you can\u2019t be part of the workforce too<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The law protects us<\/h2>\n<p>Unequal treatment at work because of a spinal cord injury can feel degrading, unjust and humiliating. But it\u00a0should never happen. The Equality Act protects all disabled people from discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation was introduced to ensure we can all continue to operate on a level playing field with non-disabled people. It safeguards all against unequal treatment across a range of employment issues, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Job offers<\/li>\n<li>Terms of employment<\/li>\n<li>Dismissal and redundancy<\/li>\n<li>Promotion, transfer or training opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Interview arrangements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Returning to work<\/h2>\n<p>By law, your employer must make reasonable adjustments to help you continue working as you did before. These include improving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/armanios.co.uk\/dev\/sia\/get-support\/life-matters\/accessibility\/\"><strong>access<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to the work premises, being flexible about working hours and providing modified equipment. Everything should be about making the transition back to work\u00a0as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, you may find yourself physically unable to continue working in the same job that you did before injury. But a career you\u2019re passionate about and can revel in is still possible. All that\u2019s needed is to find a position suited to your physical abilities, skills, qualities and experiences.
