Categorised under: ,

Daiwa Scholarship Alumnus Carl Randall has two paintings shortlisted for this year’s Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize at The Mall Galleries London, March 6th – 18th. The prize was created in 2005 to encourage the very best creative representational painting in the UK and to promote the skill of draughtsmanship. Free entry to the exhibition, more details here.

The two oil paintings David Mitchell and the Whispering Gallery and Katie Leung and the Shed made as a result of sittings with the participants – novelist David Mitchell (Booker Prize nominated author best known for Cloud Atlas and Number 9 Dream, who also opened Carl’s 2014 solo exhibition Tokyo Portraits at Daiwa Foundation Japan House, and actress Katie Leung, who is best known for her portrayal of Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films.

The paintings are from Carl’s London Portraits – a series of 15 paintings of people who have contributed to British Society and culture, each being asked to choose a place in London for the backdrop of their portraits. A print display of the series is presently hanging at the National Portrait Gallery in London (print gallery, basement).
