Message from Jason James, new Director General, Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation

I am delighted to be joining the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation as Director General – although I am aware that my predecessor Professor Marie Conte-Helm will prove a hard act to follow! Japan House has developed an important position as a centre for Japanese-related activities in London, with an exciting programme of high-level events. Distinctive programmes like the Daiwa Scholarships, the Daiwa Foundation Art Prize and the Daiwa Adrian Prizes, as well as the Foundation’s grant and award programmes, have made a vital contribution to relations between the UK and Japan over the past two decades. In my previous post as Director of the British Council in Japan, I worked to build links between our two countries in Japan, and I am looking forward to being equally active at the UK end. My wife (Kyoko) is Japanese, and we are doing our best to bring our three children up to be equally comfortable in both cultures. So for me, acting as a bridge between the UK and Japan is not just a job. In Japanese style, I would like to ask you all for your support and advice over the coming months and years.
