How to Amaze Your Friends: the Maths of Networks and Facebook
Chris Budd is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Bath and Professor of Mathematics at the Royal Institution of Great Britain. His research involves theory, application and computation for nonlinear problems, with a focus on problems which arise in industry. He is currently a Vice-President of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.

15:15 -16:00 – Dr Tadashi Tokieda, University of Cambridge
Science from a Sheet of Paper
Tadashi Tokieda is a Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He was born in Japan and educated in France, and obtained his PhD at Princeton University in the USA. His research involves symplectic geometry and Hamiltonian systems. He has a special interest in mathematical physics, particularly physics related to toys. In addition to Japanese, French, and English, he knows many other languages including Greek, Latin, Chinese, Finnish, Spanish, and Russian.
