Launch of 'New Architecture in Japan' and talk by Yuki and Edmund Sumner

Daiwa Foundation Japan House

Organised by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation

This major new survey showcases Japan’s new architecture, featuring projects of all types, sizes and budgets, from offices and private houses to schools, shops, hospitals, airports and chapels. Both cutting-edge, emerging young practices such as Sou Fujimoto and Junya Ishigami are featured, as well as established, internationally known architects, such as Toyo Ito, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma and SANAA. The book also includes the work of international practices in Japan such as Rogers Stirk Harbour, Foster + Partners and Herzog & de Meuron. The evocative architectural photographs of Edmund Sumner reveal Japanese architecture in context and are accompanied by both critical texts and drawings. This illuminating study captures the excitement of Japan’s contemporary architecture and acknowledges its increasing influence on architecture worldwide.
