CROSS CURRENTS: glasswork and ceramics by Keiko Mukaide and Simon Ward
Daiwa Foundation Japan House
Organised by the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation
To coincide with the exhibition “Cross Currents: glasswork and ceramics by Keiko Mukaide and Simon Ward”, the artists gave an illustrated talk on their work at Daiwa Foundation Japan House on Thursday 20 July 2006.
2.00pm – 3.00pm Illustrated talk
3:00pm – 4.00pm Refreshments
Keiko Mukaide discussed recent developments in the public realm, notably site-specific glass installations which focus on themes such as the spirit of place. She explained the connections between materials and location, and the influences which underpin the cross currents of her practice.
Simon Ward’s collection of objects and materials from both Britain and Japan has informed and influenced the direction of his work. His process of making work involves drawing out connections between object and memory. Simon’s talk focussed on the many influences which feed his practice, particularly the strong connections to his recent travels in both Japan and Korea.
