Aomori Project at Borough Hall, Greenwich

Categorised under:

The choreographer and dancer, Sioned Huws, has been collaborating with artists from Aomori and Tokyo, including dancers, musicians, singers and visual/performance artists;  and has held a variety of performances in Japan and the UK as part of the Aomori Project: Of Landscapes Remembered, which the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation was happy to support with a Daiwa Foundation Award.

This next stage invites previous and new participants to experiment with the Aomori artists from Northern Japan and the UK.

AOMORI – TOKYO – CARDIFF – LONDON – NAPLES – FLORENCE

The Aomori Project will involve an architectural movement exploration of  Greenwich Dance’s Borough Hall, revisiting memories, playing, dancing, sharing and using bodies as landscapes in order to create a community.

The workshop element will encourage you to use your body to map the interconnecting labyrinths, discover unknown places and create your own intricate tapestry of paths and patterns. Rediscover this Grade II listed building and play to your heart’s content.

The sounds and songs of Aomori offer a welcome to the community who together will navigate tradition, ritual and the everyday, tipping perspectives from vertical to horizontal and formal choreographic structures contrasted by the informality of play.

There are 3 opportunities to connect with this special project all taking place at Greenwich Dance’s home The Borough Hall:

Sioned Huws is a Resident Artist at Greenwich Dance. She has lead the Aomori Project over the last 6 years, working between England, Japan and Wales, developing connections through movement, music, buildings and locations. This year, the project extends to involve Italian partners.

We hope you will join Sioned and her international team as one of the collaborators in this phase which will lead towards a performance work for tour in 2014. So far we have had a range of people become part of the project from children aged one to dynamic dancers in their 80s.
