Carl Randall interview on the BBC World Service about his Japan paintings

Daiwa Scholarship Alumnus Carl Randall was recently interviewed by the BBC World Service about his series of Japan paintings. The piece looks at paintings made during his 10-year stay in Tokyo (2003-2013), focusing on his portraits of Japanese people and his portrayal of Tokyo’s crowds.

Carl’s Japan work has been exhibited at Christie’s New York, The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Academy of Arts, The Jerwood Gallery and The Mall Galleries London, at art fairs in Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey and at solo exhibitions at The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation London and The Shizuoka City Tokaido Hiroshige Museum Japan.

He was awarded the BP Travel Award from The National Portrait Gallery London and The Nomura Art Prize from Tokyo University of Arts. His Japan work is in the collections of Foundation Carmignac Paris France, University College London Museum and Tokyo University of Arts Japan.
