Daiwa Foundation receives Japan-British Society Award
The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation was honoured to receive the Japan-British Society Award in 2019. The Japan-British Society was founded in 1908 to encourage the study of things British and to promote cordial relations between the peoples of the United Kingdom and Japan. It has an annual programme of Awards, the aim of which is to recognise significant contribution in the field of Japanese-British relations by individuals and organisations.
The Foundation received the Award for its contributions to the furthering of Anglo-Japanese relations, and the Daiwa Scholarships programme in particular was highlighted for its success in this regard.
In a ceremony held on 28th November 2019, Mr Masamichi Yokoi, Director of the Foundation’s Tokyo Office, accepted the Award on behalf of the Foundation from Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa, daughter of the Society’s late patron His Imperial Highness Prince Tomohito of Mikasa. Other distinguished guests included the British Ambassador to Japan and two former Japanese Ambassadors to the UK. Mr Richard Halberstadt, Director of the Ishinomaki Community and Information Centre and formerly Associate Professor at Ishinomaki Senshu University, was recipient of the individual Award. The event was a great success and hugely enjoyed by all the many attendees; more information can be found here.
