On 20 March 2018, Dame Darcey Bussell DBE © British Embassy Tokyo, the retired star ballerina who has developed a second career as a TV personality, spoke on “Dancing Through Life” at the residence of Britain’s Ambassador to Japan, Paul Madden. This was the third lecture in the ongoing Daiwa Ichiban Lecture Series in collaboration with the British Embassy in Tokyo.
In her speech, Bussell interwove an account of her own career in the glamorous world of international ballet, and beyond (accompanied by some fabulous video clips), with a passionate advocacy of the physical and mental health benefits of dance. She also introduced her dance fitness programme Diverse Dance Mix, which she is working to introduce into schools in order to enthuse young people with the benefits of dance and put them on the path to healthier lifestyles.
