Daiwa Scholar 2015 Andrew Jones's fundraising efforts

Categorised under:

In April/May 2016,  Andrew Jones, a 2015 Daiwa Scholar, decided to run a marathon. In his own words, “I thought that it would be a fitting opportunity to try and raise a few yen for a worthy cause. As an added bonus for those funding this potentially ill-advised endeavour, I decided to push my wee legs a little further and climb Mount Fuji the next day.

I wanted to raise some money to support Japanese efforts to provide aid and assistance to Iraq, where far too many people have tragically lost their lives, loved ones and have been displaced from their homes due to fighting and terrorist attacks in recent years. I am collecting donations in support of JEN`s (Japan Emergency NGOs) work in Iraq, where they provide much-needed equipment and support to a number of refugee camps and schools throughout the country, primarily through the improvement of local sanitation infrastructure and education on personal and community hygiene.

I am happy to say that despite the oppressive summer heat and humidity in Tokyo I completed the marathon in the not-particularly-inspiring time of 4 and a half hours and climbed to the top of Mount Fuji the next day.

My fundraising page is still open, so if you would like to make a donation, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fujiweekender . Any donations, however small, would be greatly appreciated. If you would like some more information on JEN and their work in Iraq, please check out their website at http://www.jen-npo.org/en/project/project_iraq.php.

Many thanks,

Andrew
