Daiwa Scholar Wins Speech Contest
Categorised under: Education, Events, Scholarships
The Tokyo School of Japanese Language (The Naganuma School) held its Speech Contest (one of their three big events) on Tuesday, 3 September 2013 at the Sakura Hall of the Shibuya Cultural Center Owada. This is the first time the speech contest has been held outside the School. Daiwa Scholar 2012 (DS 2012 ), Nick Hall, was awarded the first prize among the intermediate-level students. Eleven students were selected for the final contest – three beginner-level students, four intermediate-level students and four advanced-level students. All the classes received coaching in writing the speech draft in July and each class used the time from the end of July to the beginning of August to select a candidate to participate in the preliminary contest. The class representatives got together just after the summer holidays in August and participated in the preliminary contest, from which the eleven final contestants were chosen. The theme of Nick’s speech was ‘The Thing I Like Best in Japan’ and Nick chose the ‘Washlet’ toilet as the topic of his speech. Daiwa Scholar 2011 Darren Craig (DS 2011) also won the same competition last year. We hope that Daiwa Scholars continue this winning form next year as well!
