“What do those words actually mean, the whole world obliterated? Everything we know and love just totally disappears?”
Adapted from Toshiki Okada’s acclaimed script and developed specifically for Summerhall’s Dissection Room, Fellswoop’s immersive blend of theatre and live music asks how we respond to a changing climate: with fear and denial, or by changing ourselves?
FellSwoop Theatre’s previous productions in Edinburgh include Ablutions, which won Ignite Festival’s Critic’s Choice Award, and Belleville Rendez-vous, which won the NSDF Methuen Drama Award for Emerging Artists. Both were sell-out productions and went on to tour the UK.
“Quietly gripping and thoroughly unsettling” (Exeunt Magazine)
“Will haunt you long after you leave the theatre” (A Younger Theatre)
“… that rarest of things: a bold and experimental play that manages to tell a complex and emotional story. It’s a must-see” (Fringe Madrid)
Current Location is an immersive piece of theatre that will be performed by an all-female cast with live music by Ben Osborn. It will explore how the trepidation associated with climate change can fracture relationships within communities, friends and families.
The play was originally written by Japanese playwright Toshiki Okada in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. Okada is leader of Chelfitish, a production company based in Yokohama and his work has gained him acclaim both in Japan and overseas.
