Julie Brook: Outer Reaches, A sculptural journey across continents from the Hebrides to Japan

The artist, Julie Brook was one of three  artists shortlisted  for the Daiwa Foundation Art Prize in  2015. Brook responds directly to the specific nature of her environments expressing those influences through the sculptural work and large scale drawings she makes from the materials she finds to hand. She is primarily concerned with how the forms are influenced by the more temporal elements such as light and shadow; climate and tidal changes. Her explorations have enabled her to work in remote communities in the Hebrides; with the Tuareg in Libya and in Himba communities in NW Namibia.

Julie Brook will give a talk at Magdalen College, Grove Auditorium, Oxford OX1 4AU on Tuesday, February 27th 2018 at 6pm. Please enter by the Long Wall entrance (1st right after turning left onto Longwall St from High Street).

She will give an introduction to her land based sculptural work in wild and remote landscapes in Scotland, Libya and NW Namibia and talk about her current project in the Outer Hebrides and Japan.
