Review and also an introduction to 'Drive My Car' - film based on a Haruki Murakami short story
Categorised under: Scholarships, Theatre & Film
“Drive My Car” takes a meditative trip down memory lane. Murakami Haruki’s short story of a driver growing closer to her passenger is adapted by Hamaguchi Ryusuke into an understated and precise reflection on language, emotion and loss.
Here you can read a super review of the film by Daiwa Scholarship alumna, Dr Becca Voelcker. The review will make readers want to watch the film, but it does reveal some of the plot: http://ow.ly/RPuM50FFH3d
Below you can watch Becca introducing ‘Drive My Car’ before a screening of the film at Japan House London. The spoken introduction contains no plot spoilers, and is a hugely entertaining and useful guide for anyone about to watch the film!
