Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre productions will be streamed online on 12,13,17, 18 June

The organisers of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival – the first large theatre festival in Central and Eastern Europe to be organised online in 2020, have organised an online special edition, “Empowered”, which will be streamed for free on Facebook, YouTube, and via its website. Two of Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre’s productions will be streamed online: The Character (written and directed by Hideki Noda, Artistic Director of Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre) and Shakepeare’s Richard III.
The plays are performed in Japanese with subtitles in English.

The scene is set in a small calligraphy class.With a terrorist incident in Japan as a motif, Noda seeks to portray our impulses. How does “an idealistic belief metamorphose into homicidal madness?” .

The renowned Japanese actor, Kuranosuke Sasaki plays the part of Richard Ⅲ.The director is Silviu Purcărete, “Romania’s Ninagawa”. Purcărete fascinated Japanese audiences at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre with three performances: Lulu, Gulliver’s Travels and Oidip.
Performed in Japanese with English and Romanian subtitle.
