Keys of Change: Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta

Keys of Change (KoC), a UK charity, has been supporting the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta (FYS) since they set it up, following the Tohoku earthquake in March 2011. They have now decided to launch a support group in London, the London Friends of the FYS.

The FYS is comprised of junior high school students from Fukushima Prefecture in Japan. In April 2014, three years after the earthquake, the FYS and KoC gave their first overseas performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Since then, they have performed in all around the world in places such as: Boston, Tokyo and, frequently, in Fukushima.

The orchestra was founded by Panos Karan, pianist and Head of the KoC Board. Panos had hoped to use music as a means of healing the spiritually wounded- those who had been affected by the earthquake. Since that unfortunate event, KoC has been actively working to strengthen the Fukushima community and contributes many to earthquake reconstruction projects.

KoC, is financially supported by the families of the orchestra players, other stakeholders and volunteers and offers many invaluable learning opportunities to the young orchestra members. Please consider becoming a member of the FYS group and help to fund their cause. Members of the FYS group are invited to an annual live orchestra show in November. (Among many other perks).
