Workshop with Yuka Takechi at the Tokyo University of Arts
Exploring the String Quartets by Takemitsu and Britten
Britten wrote his String Quartet No.2 in 1945, for the commemoration of 250th year of Purcell’s death – Takemitsu wrote A Way A Lone inspired by the novel Finnegans Wake written by the Irish writer, James Joyce. Yuka Takechi, a renowned composer who has worked extensively in Japan and the UK, talks about the expression of “national identity” through these works, in conversation with the Toki Quartet. 英国と日本を代表する作曲家達、ベンジャミン・ブリテンと武満徹の弦楽四重奏について、公開ワークショップを行います。1945年、パーセル没後250年記念のために書かれたブリテン弦楽四重奏第二番、そしてアイルランドの作家ジェイムズ・ジョイスの小説「フィネガンズ・ウェイク」からインスピレーションを受けた武満の「ア・ウェイ・ア・ローン」。独自性が表現されているこの二曲について、英国で活躍されてきた作曲家・武智由香さんの解説、トキ・カルテットの曲の解釈と共に、作曲家と演奏家達の会話が繰り広げられます。
