Asia and the UK: Forging a New Relationship Post-Brexit
The Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), 10 St James's Square, London, SW1Y 4LE
the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation and the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) 主催
Invitation onlyIn the wake of the Brexit vote, much of the discussion thus far has focused on what Brexit would mean for Britain’s relationship with the EU. But a change in Britain’s relationship with Europe will also have significant effects on relationships with other countries and regions. The UK has a long and historic relationship with Asia. Japan, in particular, is one of the largest foreign investors in the UK and has been vocal in its views on Brexit, both before and after the referendum result. This event looked at the impact of Brexit on some of the UK’s key trading partners in Asia. How has the Brexit vote been perceived in the region and what are the hopes of the UK’s Asian allies from the forthcoming negotiations with the EU? The panel then analysed new opportunities for the UK and Asia to work together in regards to trade, diplomacy and security. This event was organised jointly with the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House.
