This Side and the Other Side is an Anglo-Japanese odyssey of the artistic achievement of Nana Shiomi. It follows a 20-year journey of printmaking – paying homage to the past and her native culture, while at the same time gently forging her unique contemporary vision. It culminates in the completion of the epic print series, ‘One Hundred Views of Mitate’. Those who have observed her journey include Akira Moriguchi, curator at the Sezon Museum in Japan, and Chris Orr, artist and former professor of printmaking at the Royal College of Art in London. Their contributions to her newly published book reflect back to her roots, and the singular endeavour of her practice as an artist for whom printmaking is central to her life and being.

In this event, Nana Shiomi will discuss her life as a printmaker and the completion of ‘One Hundred Views of Mitate’ that has taken twenty years to complete. She will reveal the compelling complexities of her art and share the beautiful imagery she has created since coming from Tokyo to study and live in London.

This Side and the Other Side will be available at the special price of £25 (RRP £30) at this event. You can also buy the book online here.
