Ritsue Mishima, a Japanese glass artist working on Murano island, Venice, has produced this first significant retrospective book on her work. RITSUE MISHIMA: GLASS WORKS VENICE includes over 100 images with accompanying text in Japanese, English and Italian. (251pp)
How can I convey my emotions? Thanks to the glassblowers, minerals and fire blend to form glass in a race against time, everything comes together and shape grows from the inside out. The continuous rhythm of matte and action in making glass works never fails to fill me with excitement and passion. The molten glass, the movement of the serventi [assistant], the maestro’s mood and focus, my decisions, the flow of work and form, all become one – fruit of the fire.
– Ritsue Mishima
It’s a miracle. Using light and glass and water, Ritsue Mishima has filled my room with magic and beauty. For the moment. She’s taken my ordinary room and made it special. For the moment. That’s what glass can do. That’s what Ritsue Mishima can do. Her art opens the door to magic.
