Japanese Gardens: Ancient and Modern
Daiwa Foundation Japan House
the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation in association with The Japanese Garden Society 主催
Japanese gardens featured strongly at the Chelsea Flower Show again this year. This seminar will look at the underlying themes that continue to make Japanese gardens so appealing, and how one designer in the UK, Maureen Busby, used Japanese aesthetics in creating stunning designs appropriate for our very different settings and architecture. In 2002 she won Gold and ‘Best in Show’ for a courtyard garden at the Hampton Court Flower Show, and in 2004, Gold at the Chelsea Flower Show. Sadly, Maureen died in 2006, but her work lives on in the form of a book ‘The Japanese Way’, published by the Japanese Garden Society, which will be reviewed in the seminar.
