The Nuclear Culture Source Book is a resource and introduction to nuclear culture. In this talk, Ele Carpenter and Eiko Honda bring together contemporary art and ideas investigating the nuclear Anthropocene, nuclear sites and materiality, along with important questions of radiological inheritance, nuclear modernity and the philosophical concept of radiation as a hyperobject.

Yuka Takechi has forged a unique career as a composer at the highest level, creating new classical music for Japanese traditional music and its instruments. In this talk, Takechi introduced her works by using video and audio materials and considered the potential of Japanese traditional music, its creativity and its future. Takechi was joined by award-winning violinist Midori Komachi, who performed a selection of Takechi’s original pieces for violin.

Since the September 2013 selection of Tokyo as host of the 2020 Olympic Games, the Japanese have put increased emphasis on cybersecurity and Internet of Things (IoT) security to make sure the Games are a success. 2015-16 was particularly packed with developments. Mihoko Matsubara, Chief Security Officer for Japan at Palo Alto Networks, talked about Japan’s cybersecurity efforts in the run-up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and what they mean for the rest of the world.
