Daiwa Scholars 2002

Daiwa Scholars 2002 completed their scholarship in April 2004.

Between them, the five Daiwa Scholars 2002 studied at three different universities from across the UK. Their studies encompassed Architecture, Chinese Studies and English.

 

About the scholars

Natasha Brereton

Natasha Brereton completed a BA degree in Chinese Studies at Wadham College, Oxford University. Since finishing the Daiwa Scholarship she worked as Bank of England Correspondent at the Dow Jones and worked for Dow Jones in Singapore. She is currently APAC Sovereign Research Writer at Moody’s Investors Service Singapore.

Natasha’s homestay in Japan was in Izumi Mura City in Kumamoto Prefecture. Her work placement was as at the Asahi Shimbun.  She is currently Vice President – Senior Research Writer with the Sovereign Risk Group Service Singapore Pte. Ltd., focused on the Asia Pacific region.

Phoebe Dakin

Phoebe Dakin completed a BArch degree at the University of Glasgow and is a Qualified Architect (RIBA).

Phoebe’s homestay in Japan was in Miyoshi City in Tokushima Prefecture. Her work placement was at Toyo Ito Architects and the Tokyo Carpentry College.

She worked for Peter Inskip + Peter Jenkins Architects, before joining Gresford Architects, where she works with her husband Tom. She also teachers Architecture at Oxford Brookes University.

Leo Fransella

Leo Fransella First-completed a BA degree in Chinese Studies at Balliol College, Oxford University. Having finished the Scholarship, Leo worked as staff writer for the Daily Yomiuri before joining Aon Company and then Oliver Wyman. He now works for COO Client Advisory Services.

Leo’s homestay in Japan was in Obihiro City in Hokkaido. His work placement was at the Yomiuri Shimbun and Agence France-Presse. He is currently COO, Corporate & RMP at Marsh UK.

Andrew Limond

Andrew Limond completed a BA degree in Chinese Studies at St Anne’s College, Oxford University. Andy worked for Ballingal Investment Advisors (Hong Kong) from 2007 to 2010, as Analyst and then Assistant Portfolio Manager on the BIA Pacific Fund. From 2010-2013 he was employed at Lloyd George Management, working as Macro Strategist, helping to run portfolios and also implementing new investment risk and stock-screening systems for the firm.

Andrew’s homestay in Japan was in Shima City in Mie Prefecture and in Suginami in Tokyo. His work placement was at the Japan Film School.

He currently works as Investment Manager for Aims Asset Management in Malaysia.

 

Marchus Mucha

Marchus Mucha completed a BA degree in English at Trinity College, Cambridge. In 2011 Marcus moved to the United States. Having interned at ICM International Creative Management, he then joined Revelations Entertainment in 2013, where he is VP. Marcus’s homestay in Japan was in Kuji City in Iwate Prefecture. His work placements were at Paul Smith Japan and at the Japan Film School.

Marcus was the Vice President of Revelations Entertainment, actor Morgan Freeman’s film and television production company in Los Angeles, until 2016.

He subsequently took up a leadership role at the Mucha Foundation in Prague from May 2016.
