The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra is making its Cadogan Hall debut in the Hall’s tenth anniversary year on Monday, 17 March 2014. Japan’s oldest and largest orchestra is conducted by Eiji Oue, a Japanese conductor known for his original and powerful interpretations, and this evening’s concert sees the orchestra perform a mixture of traditional Japanese and Western music.

At 7:30pm on Tuesday 7 January 2014 The Concordia Foundation, Gillian Humphreys present East Meets West: Beyond the Horizon at St Martin in the Fields. Satoko Fukuda, creative director with the Concordia International Ensemble, dancers and musicians, including shamisen player Hibiki Ichikawa who has played at the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, will play a variety of music including Japanese folk songs, Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Vaughan Williams and Roxanna Panufnik.

On 6th December, Japanese violinist Midori Komachi will give a recital at Tokyo Opera City Hall, with a programme including works by British and Japanese composers – Elgar, Britten, Holst, Delius and Hosokawa. The London-based violinist has performed the works of British composers to critical acclaim, receiving the Delius Society Award in January 2013.
