Okinawa Day 2015 hopes to introduce Okinawan culture further into the UK and enrich the UK-Okinawa relationship which has been established through our previous Okinawa Day events.

Two powerful documentary films by Yoshitaka TERADA of Japan’s National Museum of Ethnology will be shown at SOAS, University of London (Khalili Lecture Theatre) on February 18th and 22nd respectively. These deal with music’s role in helping two minorities in the Osaka area – Okinawans and the so-called Burakumin ‘outcasts’ – actively and publicly deal with prejudice and injustice.

It was a cold, wet and miserable day in London yesterday, and with storms threatening I have to say I wasn’t overly keen to spend my evening in a crypt. Fortunately, the artists and designers who are a part of LOOCHOO ‘Time’ which was opening at The Crypt Gallery in London brought all of the warmth of Okinawa with them, along with music, dancing and live painting.
