Major Teabowl Exhibition in Oxford,24 October - 20 November 2014

The teabowl, or chawan, is at the heart of the Japanese tea ceremony – an object of beauty, simplicity and contemplation. Taking this as its inspiration, this exhibition presents a remarkable variety of teabowls and small vessels, with some 300 pieces by more than 60 makers from all parts of the world. These range from traditional pieces by legendary Japanese and British potters to contemporary vessels – functional and conceptual – by leading European ceramists. On show at Oxford Ceramics Gallery from 24 October to 16 November 2014, the exhibition is complemented by an exciting programme of events at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.

Talk by Kiyoko Mitsuyama Wdowiak at Parasol unit on Shinro Ohtake and post-war Japanese contemporary art

Given the huge interest that the current Shinro Ohtake exhibition at the Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art has attracted, you may be interested in art historian, Kiyoko Mitsuyama Wdowiak’s talk on post-war Japanese contemporary art, placing Shinro Ohtake’s practice in a broader context. The talk will take place at the Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art (near Old Street and Angel Stations) at 7pm on Tuesday 28 October 2014.

'The Grandchildren of Hiroshima' - a London Bubble project

In May 2014, London Bubble Theatre Company was awarded a Daiwa Foundation Award to support our project The Grandchildren of Hiroshima. Following the success of our Grandchildren of the Blitz project in 2011 – in which we drew upon the stories and experiences of elders that survived the Blitz to create an intergenerational, community production – we wanted to use the experiences of this project to undertake a parallel project in Hiroshima.

Yoi Kawakubo: Art after Fukushima and Tohoku (Talk at ICA at 2pm on 8 October)

Yoi Kawakubo is a photographer and artist, born in Spain and currently based in Tokyo.He bases his works on themes regarding the ontology of photography, light, and social issues such as disaster affected areas of Fukushima and Tohoku. On Wednesday 8 October at 2pm, he will give a talk at the ICA in London (in partnership with the University of the Arts London: Camberwell, Chelsea, Wimbledon).
