My week of work experience at the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation (2-6 July) by Rosanna Lee, a St Dunstan’s College student

Day 1

I was given a tour of Daiwa Foundation Japan House and the premises seem good. I met the staff—they seem friendly. I learnt some new Japanese vocabulary and kanji . I wrote a leaflet called ‘Tips for Learning Japanese’. I looked up some Japan-related art exhibitions and was told that we (me and a member of staff—I think Ali or Susan) will visit one later in the week.

mac birmingham presents THE PLAYMAKERS (Sat 7 Jul – Sun 9 Sep) by Tokyo-based artists KOSUGE1-16

During June and July Tokyo-based artists, husband and wife, Chishino Kurumada and Takashi Tsuchiya, known professionally as KOSUGE1-16 will be in residence at mac birmingham accompanied by their two young children, where they will be holding their first UK solo exhibition.  In fact, this is the first time the duo has shown work outside Japan.

Shinji Somai Retrospective at Edinburgh International Film Festival, 20th June through 1st July

The Edinburgh International Film Festival will be presenting the very first complete retrospective of the films of director Shinji Somai to be shown outside his native Japan, including a number of films never before screened in the UK. A constant source of inspiration to Japanese filmmakers, Somai’s work is still largely unseen by Western audiences.

Researchers from King's participate in 2nd Anglo-Japanese collaboration event in Tokyo for Improving Patient Safety

Carl Randall, 2003 Daiwa Scholar, wins the Nomura Painting Prize, Tokyo

The Nomura Art Prize is organised by Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku) to assist with the purchase of outstanding works of art produced by its Doctorate graduate students, and to preserve them at the University Museum.
