Actinium at the Sappporo International Art Festival, from 19 July to 3 August 2014
For those in Japan or heading out to the Sapporo International Art Festival this July to September, you are invited to ‘Actinium – Nuclear Culture Exhibition & Forum’, a partnership between Sapporo-based S-AIR and the UK arts organisation The Arts Catalyst. Actinium forms part of the Sapporo International Art Festival Collaborative Programme 2014 and previews on 19 July 2014. The Actinium exhibition will close on 3 August 2014.

Carl Randall's 'Tokyo Portrait' on display at Art Volta 10, 16 to 21 June 2014
A large painting made by former Daiwa Scholar, Carl Randall in Japan, Tokyo Portrait, is being exhibited at Art Volta 10, Basel, Switzerland, 16 to 21 June. Art Volta runs alongside Art Basel, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious art fairs.

Carl Randall's 'Hibakusha Portraits' on display at UCL Museum on 18 and 19 June
Carl Randall’s ‘Hibakusha Portraits’ (a series of 6 drawings of survivors of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima), are now part of the permanent collection of University College London Museum. The drawings were inspired by John Hersey’s book ‘Hiroshima’, in which the American journalist interviewed 6 survivors just after the atomic bomb was dropped. Carl’s set of 6 portraits are intended as a visual equivalent of Hersey’s documentary account. They are being exhibited at University College London Museum on 18 and 19 June (1pm to 5pm) as part of the museum’s permanent collection.

Fukushima Kimonos by Yuki Yamaguchi, on display at UCL, June 18 & 19 2014
An exhibition of the provocative and critically acclaimed Fukushima Kimonos–a triptique of ceramic sculptures first produced by the Japanese artist Yuki Yamaguchi in response to the nuclear disaster at Fukushima, Japan– will be held in the South Cloisters of UCL in conjunction with the UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction annual conference on June 18-19.

Yukako Shibata exhibition in Roppongi, 26 April to 24 May 2014
Yukako Shibata, a London-based artist who had a show at the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation in 2008, will be having an exhibition in Tokyo, at Gallery MoMo Projects Roppongi. The exhibition, Ethereal, will be run from 26 April until 24 May 2014.
