Two powerful documentary films by Yoshitaka TERADA of Japan’s National Museum of Ethnology will be shown at SOAS, University of London (Khalili Lecture Theatre) on February 18th and 22nd respectively. These deal with music’s role in helping two minorities in the Osaka area – Okinawans and the so-called Burakumin ‘outcasts’ – actively and publicly deal with prejudice and injustice.

The exhibition NATURAL FLUX is a unique exploration of nature as contemporary art, through the medium of bonsai and will be showing at Brick Lane Gallery Annexe (93-95 Sclater Street) 6th-11th November. Yesterday, Tuesday 17 September, the five new Praemium Imperiale laureates were announced in London, Rome, New York, Berlin, Paris and Tokyo. British sculptor Antony Gormley and British architect, Sir David Chipperfield were among the five awardees and in attendance at a generous reception, celebrating 25 years of the Prize and the 2013 recipients, at the Embassy of Japan in London. Both British laureates have long-standing bonds with Japan.
