Mixed-media dance performances in Tokyo: 22, 30 November and 9,10 December 2013

Rosa van Hensbergen, one of the 2012 Daiwa Scholars, is currently involved in a number of mixed-media dance performances taking place in Tokyo over the next two months (22 November, 30 November, 9 and 10 December). These are part of an ongoing collaborative project, INPUT PLACE, with ShaLeigh Comerford (American choreographer and director of ShaLeigh Dance Works) and Joe Snape (British electronic composer and researcher). All performances require advance reservation, and as seating is very limited, if you would like to come please book now to avoid disappointment. Tomoko Yoneda and artist talk, 15 October 2013

The artist talk on 15 October, connected to the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation’s current exhibition Acting Out of Nothingness: from the APT Collection  included the Director of the APT Institute, Justin R. Merino, who will describe the work of his organisation and exhibiting artist Kanako Sasaki, who introduced her photography and the thoughts and processes that inform her work. London-based Japanese photographer Tomoko Yoneda whose work addresses similar themes led a discussion on journalism, history and contemporary photography.

2011 Daiwa Tohoku Scholar, Jun Murayama’s Study Abroad Experience at the University of Glasgow

Mr Jun Murayama – one of the 2011 Daiwa Tohoku Scholars –  is studying Western History at Chuo University and was working on a dissertation on Scottish nationalism (‘The Relationship between the Gaelic Renaissance of and Scottish Nationalism’) at the time of applying. He has just finished a year of study at Glasgow University. My experience in the UK by 2011 Daiwa Tohoku Scholar, Maho Takeuchi

Ms Maho Takeuchi – one of the 2011 Daiwa Tohoku Scholars – is a nurse, currently studying for a doctorate in Women’s Health at Tohoku University. In 2012 she spent three months at Glasgow University on a postgraduate course in lymphoedema. She believes that supporting health through nursing is key to revitalising Japan and particularly the Tohoku region. Competition to win a catalogue of Carl Randall's completed portraits and more!

As 2012 BP Travel Award winner, former Daiwa Scholar Carl Randall trekked along Japan’s Tokaido Highway in the footsteps of woodblock artist Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858), recording the people he met en route. The National Portrait Gallery is running a competition in connection with Carl’s current exhibition, In the footsteps of Hiroshige: Portraits of Modern Japan.
