Daiwa Scholar 2015 Andrew Jones's fundraising efforts

In April/May 2016,  Andrew Jones, a 2015 Daiwa Scholar, decided to run a marathon. In his own words, “I thought that it would be a fitting opportunity to try and raise a few yen for a worthy cause. As an added bonus for those funding this potentially ill-advised endeavour, I decided to push my wee legs a little further and climb Mount Fuji the next day.

Japan Research Network Edinburgh - bringing together those working on any area of Japan

Together with colleagues at the University of Edinburgh, former Daiwa Scholar Dr Chris Harding is setting up a ‘Japan Research Network Edinburgh’. The Network’s aim is to bring together scholars working on any area of Japan – staff, researchers, and graduate students alike – via a website (JRNE.org ) where they can search for one another via name, institution, and research interests. They will also hold seminars in Edinburgh a few times per year. Their first will be given by Angus Lockyer, on 12th March 2015. Though they are particularly keen to get colleagues in Scotland and the north of England talking to and meeting one another, they would very much like to extend the invitation to scholars across the UK.

Carl Randall exhibiting at Christie's New York, 23 January to 7 February 2016

Carl Randall (Daiwa Scholar 2003) is taking part in an exhibition at Christie’s New York, 23 January to 7 February 2016. Recent large Japan-based ink paintings of his will be exhibited and auctioned at Drawings from the Royal Drawing School – a group exhibition at Christie’s, running alongside Master Drawings Week New York 2016 and a Christie’s Old Master Drawings sale. His work will be exhibited alongside renowned artists such as President of the Royal Academy Christopher Le Brun, and Royal Academician Humphrey Ocean.
